I started dancing from the age of 3 at a small village dance school, within the genres of Ballet, Tap, and Modern Theatre. This gave me lots of opportunities to perform locally and across the country in all manners of performances, such as plays, dance shows, pantomimes, and musical theatre shows. The school also offered dance examinations, which I have worked though. For Ballet I took my examinations from Primary – Intermediate with the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), Tap: Grade 1 – Advanced 1, with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD), Modern Theatre – Grade 5 – Intermediate (ISTD).
From the age of 16, I began my Diploma in Dance Education (DDE) with the ISTD for Modern Theatre and Tap. Since starting this course, I have successfully completed all but 2 Units, these being the practical teacher’s exam in Tap (Unit 4) and the observation assessment (Unit 2) in both Tap and Modern Theatre.
I auditioned for Northern Ballet School in Manchester in 2020 for the level 6 Diploma in Dance Performance. I was successful in my audition and currently I am in my second term training there. I am currently working towards my Advanced 1 Ballet exam. This is alongside my usual classes which are, Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Musical Theatre, Singing, Acting, Body Conditioning, Contextual Studies, Anatomy, Yoga and Pilates. In 2023 I will Graduate from Northern Ballet School and I hope to find a job doing what I love.
In the summer prior to starting at Northern Ballet School, I worked through the Esther Juon Pointe (Grishko New Zealand) Mentoring Programme. From this I have gained a great knowledge of my body, the way it works, what I can do to strengthen and maintain a good standard of dancing, and injury prevention but above all the course helped my pointe work so much. It also led me to find a great pair of shoes that help me to achieve my best in my classes.
Some of my biggest aspirations would be to perform in Matthew Bourne’s New adventures company, or on the West End but I would first like to be secure, strong, and versatile dancer that could take on any dance role or job.
?ollaboration of Juon Pointe at Grishko NZ Ltd in New Zealand has come together with Eva Midgley and her teacher Janet Seymour through Covid. Delivering the Juon Pointe education program and the refitting of Grishko pointe shoes on Zoom. Grishko pointe shoes were sent from Grishko NZ Ltd in New Zealand to Eva in England because at the time, she could not get hold of them in the UK.
